Snapback Hats

A snapback is any cap with an adjustable plastic snap strap across the back opening. That’s the only requirement — the closure. Over the last couple of decades the word has also come to describe the high-crown, flat-brim silhouette made famous by pro sports caps, but structurally you’ll find snap closures on flat brims, curved visors, trucker styles and low-profile caps alike. When you’re ordering custom snapback hats, tell us the crown height and brim shape you want as well as the closure, so we’re building the exact cap you’re picturing.

It comes down to the front of the crown. A 5-panel has one solid piece across the front with no center seam, which gives you a clean uninterrupted surface — ideal for a wide logo or a large patch. A 6-panel is built from two front pieces with a seam running down the middle, the classic baseball cap look. Both come in low, mid and high profiles. If you want a soft, low-profile unstructured cap specifically, you’re probably looking for a dad hat rather than a snapback.

Here are the maximum decoration areas on a standard snapback: full front 4.5″ wide × 2.25″ high, left or right front panel 2.5″ × 2.5″, side panel 2.5″ × 2.5″, long side placement 3.25″ × 0.5″, back above the closure 3.4″ × 0.5″, and left or right of the back opening 1″ × 1″. High-crown snapbacks give you more usable front area than a low-profile cap, which is one reason they’re a favorite for bold, full-front branding. Yes — patches are one of the most popular ways to decorate custom snapbacks, especially leather and PVC on flat brims. Plan for a longer timeline than direct embroidery, because the patch is manufactured first. Patch production runs about two weeks after you approve the sample, then roughly another week to stitch them onto the caps — three to four weeks total before your order ships. Minimum is 24 hats per design. Direct embroidery is the fastest route — most orders ship about two weeks after artwork and quote are approved and payment clears. Patch orders run three to four weeks. Rush options are available if you’re up against a deadline; ask when you request your quote.

Some can. Screen printing works best on foam-front and high-crown canvas-front trucker hats, and we can print some unstructured nylon caps as well. Most structured wool-blend snapbacks are better suited to embroidery or a patch.
