Custom Leather Patches
There are several patch materials to choose from, and leather is one of the most popular. The quality, the luxury look, the fine detail, and the durability all make leather a patch style that never goes out of fashion. Leather is timeless — a great way to add your logo, company name, or design to the hat of your choice.

Custom Leather Patch Options
Patch Options
Choosing leather means your message already exudes quality and professionalism. And because every patch is made to order, almost everything about it is up to you — the shape, the color, the finish, and the size.

Custom Shapes
Shape options are basically unlimited — circles, squares, rectangles, shields, or a fully custom outline cut to follow your logo. If you can draw it, we can cut it.

Leather Color Options
Genuine leather patches are available in multiple shades and colors, from light natural tans to rich dark browns. Have a color in mind? Send it and we'll match you to the closest option.

Debossed or Embossed
Debossed presses your design down into the leather — the classic patch look. Embossed raises it above the surface for a three-dimensional effect. Both stay crisp over time because the design is pressed in, not printed on.

Patch Sizes
Every patch is made to order, from 0.5" × 0.5" up to 6" × 6". Front-panel hat patches usually run 2 to 3 inches; labels for jeans and bags run smaller.

Leather Labels
The same leather, sized for garments — turn your design into leather labels for jeans, beanies, and bags.

Laser Engraved
A laser etches your design directly onto the leather surface, darkening it for a burned-in look. It captures fine lines and intricate detail that stamping can't, with almost no texture — a great fit for detailed logos.

Faux Leather
Prefer an animal-free or budget-friendly option? Faux leather (leatherette/PU) gives you the same look in an even wider range of colors. Just mention it when you request your quote.

Backing Options
Sewing is what we recommend, but leather patches are also available with 3M adhesive, iron-on, or hook & loop backing when you're applying them yourself. See our backing options below.
Looking for something unique? Our team can source any style or brand to match your exact vision.
Where to Place Your Leather Patch
Once you've decided leather is the right choice, think about where the patch should sit. Which location is most visible? Most appealing? The front panel is the classic choice — it's where the eye goes first — but side and back placements stand out in their own way. Picture your logo in a few different spots before you commit. Leather patches work on almost any hat style. A leather patch on a trucker hat gives you the classic ranch-brand look. On a dad hat it reads clean and low-profile. On a snapback it makes the front panel the whole show. Whichever style fits your brand, the patch is what people notice first.

Leather Patches Backing Options
Backing Options
Sewing is always our first recommendation — if we're attaching patches to your hats, no backing is needed and stitching gives the most durable hold there is. Ordering patches on their own? Pick the backing that matches how you'll apply them.

No Backing
The standard for patch hats — we sew the patch directly on for the most permanent hold.

Iron-on Backing
Heat-activated backing for applying patches yourself with a heat press — best on materials that can take the heat, like most cotton hats and jackets. See specs for material limitations.

3M Adhesive Backing
A simple peel-and-stick layer that also keeps the patch perfectly placed while it's sewn down.

Hook-and-Loop Backing
Rough and soft-side backing that lets you swap patches between hats, vests, and packs.

How Leather Patches Are Made
Every leather patch starts with a handful of decisions that shape the final product: how many you need, embossed, debossed, or laser engraved, border or no border, shape, size, color, and turnaround time. If you're not sure on any of them, tell us what the patches are for and we'll recommend the setup that fits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to the questions we hear most about custom leather patches.
How do you attach a leather patch to a hat?
Sewing is what we recommend — the patch is stitched directly onto the hat and it’s the most durable, permanent option. We also offer iron-on and hook & loop backings if you’d rather apply patches yourself. Adhesive backing is useful too: it holds the patch exactly in place while it’s being sewn on.
What's the minimum order for custom leather patches?
The minimum for custom leather patches is 50 pieces. Leather patch hats have a 24-hat minimum, so if you’re ordering patch hats, you can keep the extra patches — or we’ll keep them on file for future re-orders with us.
What colors do leather patches come in?
Genuine leather patches are available in multiple shades and colors, from light natural tans through rich dark browns. If you have a specific brand color in mind, send it with your quote request and we’ll match you to the closest option — and if you need an even wider palette, faux leather is a great choice.
Do you offer faux leather patches?
Yes. Along with genuine leather, we offer faux leather patches — also called leatherette or PU leather. Faux leather is budget-friendly, animal-free, and comes in an even wider range of colors. It’s absolutely an option — just mention faux leather when you request your quote and we’ll set you up.
What's the difference between debossed and embossed leather patches?
Debossed means your design is pressed down into the leather, leaving a recessed imprint — the classic leather patch look you see on most hats. Embossed is the reverse: the design is raised above the surface. Debossed is the more popular choice because the imprint stays crisp and won’t wear off, but both work well — it comes down to the look you want. We also offer laser engraving, which etches the design onto the surface — the best choice for very fine detail.
Can leather patches be made in custom shapes and sizes?
Yes. We can cut your custom leather patches into just about any shape — circles, squares, rectangles, hexagons, shields, or a fully custom outline that follows your logo — from 0.5″ × 0.5″ up to 6″ × 6″. Size depends on placement: front-panel hat patches usually run 2 to 3 inches, while leather labels for jeans and bags tend to be smaller.
How well do leather patches hold up?
Leather is a naturally tough material, and because your design is engraved or pressed into the patch rather than printed on top, there’s nothing to peel or fade. Patches develop character with wear — the color deepens over time. One thing to know: leather patches hold up best on hats, bags, and jackets that don’t get washed regularly, since machine washing and dry cleaning aren’t recommended for leather.

I have had countless orders with Consolidated over the last 10+ years. Hats, hoodies, shirts, embroidery... the attention to detail is something I never have to question, and my recent order of 144 t-shirts was no different. I didnt even need to check the print before I put the order in the back of the truck. Thank you guys.
Consolidated Ink was such a pleasure to work with! Professional, punctual and extremely communicative. Not only was all the design and printing Perfect, but the materials they recommended were great quality. I have already placed a full re-order with them. Highly recommend using Consolidated Ink.
Could not be happier. Needed a small quantity of T-shirts for an important public event -- and fast! Not only was the whole job turned around on a dime, but the result was terrific -- and they actually improved the main graphic, generating a higher resolution version. Never going anywhere else.
